Bill Staines, the left-handed, upside-down guitar picker, will bring his songs and yodels to the University of Utah's Fine Arts Auditorium Wednesday, Oct. 5. The music begins at 7:30 p.m.

The New England musician is one of the best old-line folk singer/songwriters in the business, noted for his straight-ahead style and no-nonsense arrangements.Staines began writing his own songs after seeing the need to express himself in his own way. He has two albums out on Red House Records, "Going to the West" and "The Happy Wanderer," the latter a children's album for all ages.

Opening for Staines is Alisa Fineman, a promising West Coast singer/songwriter. Fineman won the Kerrville Folk Festival Song Contest and has shared the stage with Trish Hinajosa and Rosalee Sorrels. Her new release, "Better with Time," has received critical acclaim and is played frequently on public radio.
