A group of residents who want the Taylorsville-Bennion area to become its own city petitioned Salt Lake County Thursday to allow the incorporation to proceed.
More than 1,700 signatures were collected in support of the effort, reported Sherri Winder, a petition-drive organizer who said only about 1,000 signatures were required.Proponents have said they want the community to become an incorporated city so residents can have more control over planning, development and public spending.
The attempt is among four in various stages of progress around the county. Union city will be on the Nov. 8 ballot. The Cottonwoods has been stalled by a dispute over the tax-rich Cottonwood Mall. And a proposal to incorporate another section of Hollady has yet to reach the County Commission.
