A major Utah wildfire was contained and another flared again over the weekend, says the Interagency Fire Center in Salt Lake City.
The Gun Range Fire, burning about 1,000 acres along the Weber-Cache county line north of Liberty, was contained at 6 p.m. Friday, said an Interagency Fire Center spokeswoman.Crews almost contained the blaze Thursday, but high winds fanned the fire, causing it to jump lines. The fire is believed to have been sparked Aug. 30 by shooters using tracer bullets at a private firing range.
The contained Reily Fire, burning more than 4,000 acres near the Utah-Nevada border, flared again Friday night, thanks to high winds and low humidity, the spokeswoman said. Crews were mobilized all day Saturday to recontain the fire that has been burning since Aug. 4.
