UNUSUAL USABLES, RARE FINDS AT ST. VINCENT GARAGE SALE

Looking for a pair of used teeth? Or an adjustable bed? Or maybe even some Waterford crystal?

This batch of rare finds - and some other unusual usable items - will be found at a "rare finds" garage sale for the St. Vincent de Paul Center Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Weyher Warehouse. The warehouse, 225 Rio Grande, is the building south of the soup kitchen.

Resource coordinator Ann Bero said the money made at the sale will help fund the renovation of the decrepit warehouse.

"The completed warehouse will be a needed expansion to our existing facilities," she said. "And it is really needed."

A lot of the items put up for sale aren't things the homeless can use, Bero said.

Center officials are hoping to earn more than $3,000.

The St. Vincent de Paul Center served more than 190,000 meals in 1993 and provided support services such as clothing, haircuts, bus tokens and personal-care items to almost 28,000 homeless individuals last year.

Food vendors will be on site, and there is space available for craft vendors, she said.

Donations of antiques, jewelry, books, furniture and collectibles are still needed for the sale.
