One of your reporters displayed an amazing lack of sensitivity in a recent police brief. The article stated, "A Sandy woman cleaning a downtown Salt Lake office found herself in a mess Wednesday with a knife-wielding man" ("Sandy woman threatened in down- town S.L. office," Aug. 26).

While I'm sure the temptation to be cute was hard to resist, making light of an experience that undoubtedly was traumatic for the victim is inexcusable. I have a background in journalism myself, and I can understand how easy it is to become desensitized to everyday violence. But please - don't forget that these news stories are about real people. Assault and attempted rape are never funny.Rebecca M. Taylor
