Tom Cruise says he's made peace with his father's legacy of abuse.

"As a kid, I had a lot of hidden anger about that. I'd get hit, and I didn't understand it," Cruise says in the October issue of Vanity Fair. When his father was dying of cancer, Cruise says he was finally able to let go of some of that rage.

"He allowed me to go to the hospital to talk to him under the condition of not asking him any questions," Cruise says. "I loved my father very much."

Now, the actor says, he wishes sometimes his father could see Cruise with his own daughter.
