John E. Armstrong, 93, died peacefully at home with his family, September 3, 1994, and was happily reunited with his eternal companion and loved ones in the spirit world.

Jack was born October 5, 1900, Salt Lake City, to Thomas H. and Emma Welsh Armstrong. His pioneer grandmother, Jane Bryce Welsh, who he knew, walked with the ill-fated Martin Handcart Co. across the plains, was rescued by Brigham Young and arrived in Zion in 1856. He married Louise Gillespie, September 19, 1939. They were sealed together for all eternity a few months later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He graduated from West High School in 1918. With his father's early death, he helped support his mother and family for years. He worked primarily as a bookkeeper for Zions Wholesale Grocery and Otto Buehner Co..

For the past 25 years he lived with his oldest son and daughter-in-law and their family. Throughout life he was a kind, devoted, loyal, and loving man, always sacrificing himself for the welfare of his family and others.

He is survived by two sons: George E. (Pamela) and Donald B. (Lorraine) Armstrong, Sandy; nine grandchildren: Greg (wife Kris), Steve, Mike, Amy, and Jeffie; Heather, Heidi, Andy and Holly; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Anderberg, Bountiful. He was preceded in death by his wife (1961), a daughter, three brothers and one sister.

Grandpa faithfully followed the admonition of the Savior throughout mortality, to selflessly love and serve everyone.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 8, 12 noon, Granite 11th Ward (where he was a High Priest), 9800 South and 2300 East, Sandy. Friends and family may call at the church 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment:

Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
