Svea Fredricka Johnson Payne, 87, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died Sunday, September 4, 1994 in Provo, Utah following surgery.
She was born February 4, 1907 in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts, a daughter of Sven Johnson and Ida Sofia Nilson. She married Olof Payne March 31, 1928 in Littleton, Colo. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 29, 1928. He died December 6, 1988. Svea was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many Church positions through the years including teacher and visiting teacher. For 20 years, she worked as a bridal consultant at International Villa in Denver.She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Duane M. (Marlene) Payne, Aurora, Colo.; Roger A. (Jan) Payne, Paris, Tenn.; Christine Payne (Bruce) Olsen, Orem, Utah.; Mrs. Payne died exactly 36 years after her son, Ronald G. Payne, who was killed as a Navy Pilot in the South China Sea. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis Maxine. She has 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister also survive her: C.A. Johnson, Manchester, Conn.; Henry Johnson, El Toro, Calif.; and Mrs. Ester Baarratt, Canaan, Conneticut.
Funeral services will be held in the Sunset Heights Stake Center, 1260 So. 400 West, Orem, on Wednesday, September 7, 1994 at 11 a.m. where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Hampden Memorial Gardens, Denver, Colo. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, of Orem, funeral directors.
