SUSPECTS IN 3-STATE CRIME SPREE ARRESTED IN NEW MEXICO

An ex-convict and a teenager suspected of kidnapping, car thefts and three slayings in Oklahoma, Missouri and Ohio were arrested Tuesday, state police said.

The two were captured without incident at 10 a.m. in a culvert near Santa Fe, said John McKean, a spokesman for Gov. Bruce King.Dorrie Wood, a state police spokeswoman, identified the pair as Eric A. Elliot, 16, and Lewis E. Gilbert, 22, both of New-comers-town, Ohio.

Elliot's parents, Robert and Judy Elliot of Cleveland, said they believe their son was forced to accompany Gilbert, who was released from prison last month.

Federal warrants had been issued for the two, who are wanted on charges of killing an elderly couple in Missouri, the disappearance of an elderly woman in Ohio and car theft in Oklahoma and Ohio.
