WINNERS IN 1ST GRID PICKS WEEK HAD TO BE PERFECT, AND THEN SOME

The first week of Deseret News Grid Picks contest ended with 1,040 total entries and 41 perfect "12s."

Co-winners, Jay Roberts of Bountiful and Mark Jackson of Provo each scored the Utah/Utah State game 31-17 making their tiebreaker score a "1."They both will receive $100, a Grid Picks T-shirt and pizza from Domino's. In addition, they will both get the two bonus points added to their score of 12 correct predictions. This makes them eligible for the grand prize, a trip for two to the Holiday Bowl (or comparable bowl game) awarded at the end of the contest to the player with the most cumulative points.

Ten runners-up from the pool of 41 with 12 correct picks were selected using the tiebreaker formula. Their names and tiebreaker scores are as follows:

Mark Katter, Midvale, 2; Bill Ross, Herriman, 4; Gaylene Packard, Farmington, 4; Quin Stringham, Salt Lake City, 5; Lynn Skene, Sandy, 5; Mark Goodrich, Salt Lake City, 5; Walt Mehr, Salt Lake City, 5; Stephen Hewlett, Bountiful, 5; Dean Larson, Centerville, 5 and Tina Hofmann, Murray, 5.

All of those scoring 5 in the tiebreaker game won as a result of a random drawing since 15 entries scored a 5 on the tiebreaker.

Runners-up receive a T-shirt and a pizza coupon and are entered in the cumulative contest.
