Walton W. Hunter, died at his home in Huntington Beach, Calif. after a lingering illness.

Born October 25, 1920, Enoch, Texas, to Walter W. Hunter and Verna Ann Hall. He was an officer in the Army Air Force during World War II. He married June Brady, Sept. 13, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He filled two LDS Church missions in the Southern States (1941-1943 and 1948-1949). He served twice as LDS bishop (Grant 9th Ward, Salt Lake City, 10 years and So. San Jose, Calif. 10th Ward six years). As bishop he was dedicated to missionary work and called many young people to serve missions, giving them complete love and support. He held many other church positions and loved teaching and expounding gospel principles. He had great compassion and was often sought to give counsel and direction in times of stress.He is survived by his wife, June; four children, Wayne Hunter (DiAna), Salt Lake City; Rebecca Rapp (David) El Cajon, Calif.; Deborah Marsh (Steven) Damascus, Or.; and Cynthia Steele (Kevin), Dove Canyon, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his mother, Verna Hunter, Salt Lake City; and sister, Wylene Fotheringham (Howard), Salt Lake City; sister-in-law, Judith Hunter, Toquerville. Preceded in death by his father; brother, Elvan and sister, Renee Mackie.

He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather and was a prominent businessman in Salt Lake City and California, owning and operating his own car business.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 1995, 1 p.m. at Grand Second Ward, 702 E. Jepson (3225 So.), Salt Lake City. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr., Thursday, January 12, 6-8 p.m. or at the church 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Elysian Burial Gardens.
