President Clinton has consulted personal motivation consultants, including one of new Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich's favorites.

Clinton met last Friday at Camp David with Utah's Stephen R. Covey, author of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," and Anthony Robbins, a motivation expert whose books and tapes offer advice on achieving peak performances, White House Communications Director Mark Gearan said Tuesday.Gingrich also has called upon Covey for advice and Covey co-wrote a chapter on personal strength in American culture for one of the student readings that Gingrich uses in the college course he teaches.

Gearan said the private sessions with Covey and Robbins at Camp David were not attended by other White House staffers.

"The president for some time has had private meetings with various friends, religious leaders, academics, presidential historians and leaders of business institutions on issues of the day," Gearan said. "The informal meetings were unstaffed."
