A Colorado woman was in stable condition Saturday after she was hit by lightning while rappelling in Grand County.

Michelle Moore, 32, Boulder, Colo., was rappelling off Castle Rock near Castle Valley, located 30 miles east of Moab, when she was struck, a Grand County sheriff's dispatcher said.Two climbing companions assisted Moore off the rock face.

She was later transported via helicopter to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., with severe burns.

Moore had successfully climbed to the top of Castle Rock and was on her way back down about 2 p.m. when she was hit by the lightning.

Last month, a Brazilian woman died in the same area after being struck by lightning while climbing there.
