Events leading up to Utah Opera's season-opening production of Puccini's "La Boheme" begin this week, starting with an Ogden Opera Guild symposium this evening at 6 at Ogden's Eccles Art Center.
Featured will be excerpts from the opera along with a discussion by the artistic staff, followed by a light buffet. The buffet is $5 for nonmembers; the symposium is free. For reservations call 771-9460.On Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Ardean Watts of the Utah Arts Council will present a free preview lecture, "Aria Madness," at Westminster College's Jewett Center, which will include a sing-along.
On Friday, Oct. 6, at noon the Utah Opera Guild's "La Boheme" luncheon will take place at the Salt Lake Country Club. Featured during the meal will be selections from the opera as performed by members of the Utah Opera Ensemble. Lunch is $18, with advance reservations required; call 582-3484.
On Thursday, Oct. 12, at 12:15 p.m. at the Capitol Theater members of the production team, including the stage director, conductor and costume and lighting designers, will be featured in an "Operabites Symposium." Back-stage glimpses of the production will be offered, free of charge, with a box lunch available for $5; call 323-6868.
"La Boheme" will be presented Oct. 14, 16, 18 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, with a Sunday matinee Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. For ticket information call ArtTix (355-2787).
