SHARE WESTERN OFFICIALS ELECT BEATTIE TO KEY POST

Utah Senate President Lane Beattie was elected vice chairman of the Western Legislative Conference at the end of the conference's four-day meeting in Salt Lake City Tuesday.

That means Beattie, R-West Bountiful, will be in line to chair the conference in 1997. The Utah Legislature hosted the recent meeting and raised around $200,000 from local businesses and individuals to pay for it.The conference is the western arm of the Council of State Governments, a national group of legislators, governors, attorneys general and other state officials and their staffs.

Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt will be elected president of the CSG during its annual convention, held in Puerto Rico, next year.
