A man who ordered his 7-year-old son to walk home alone in the dark along a road without sidewalks will stand trial on a charge of endangering the child's welfare.

The boy, Pierce Lopez, did not try to make the 2-mile trek through the community in suburban Pittsburgh. He was found wearing only a bathing suit and sandals near the entrance of the yacht club where he and his father had argued on Aug. 29."I was horrified," Rebecca Thomson, the club's dining room manager, said Thursday after a preliminary hearing for the boy's father, Marc Lopez. "How could someone do that to their child?"

A district justice agreed, ordering Lopez, 32, to stand trial.

"I don't think my child was in danger - or I didn't think he was in danger at the time," Lopez testified.

He could get up to five years' imprisonment and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
