The 50th birthday of the United Nations Tibetans in America will kick off an indefinite hunger strike in an effort to call attention to on-going tragedies in Tibet while it's been under Chinese occupation.
In Utah, Tibetans and their supporters will fast for one day to show support for the national effort. Their purpose is to show "solidarity and respect to those who died in the struggle for Free Tibet," a press release said.Anyone is invited to join the protest, which will be held outside the Federal Building, 125 S. State, on Oct. 24 at 8 a.m.
Organizers hope to persuade the United Nations to recognize Tibet as an occupied country. They want the world to recognize the Dalai Lama and Tibetan government in exile as the true government of Tibet and negotiate the country's future with China.
