Four people were injured, one critically, Wednesday when a trailer traveling on I-15 separated from its semi-trac-tor, crossed the highway median and careened into oncoming traffic - striking two vehicles.
The semitrailer truck was traveling south near 11400 South about 6:45 a.m. when the trailer suddenly disconnected and collided with a northbound compact car and a van, according to Utah Division of Public Safety spokesman Verdi White II.The driver of the car was flown to LDS Hospital in critical condition.
The van's driver and her two young children suffered minor injuries and were taken to Alta View Hospital.
"Fortunately, both of the kids were wearing safety restraint belts," said White.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Wednesday's accident slowed rush hour traffic for almost three hours, said White.
