A wild ride for a pair of teenagers on in-line skates turned out to be no fun for a couple of girls walking along the sidewalk near the Orem Fitness Center Wednesday afternoon.

Lindsey Green, 16, and Gwen Christensen, 16, both of Orem, were injured when a pickup truck jumped the curb and crossed the sidewalk to push them into a fence at 350 S. 700 West.Orem police spokesman Gerald Nielsen said the driver, Matthew Cook, 16, Orem, was pulling two friends on in-line skates behind his truck Wednesday about 3 p.m on the road behind Mountain View High School.

When one skater let go, the driver apparently didn't watch where he was going and his vehicle ran off the road, said Nielsen.

The vehicle struck Green and Christensen, pushing them into the chainlink fence.

An off-duty public safety officer, Lyle Thomson, administered first aid to the girls until ambulances arrived.

Green was in serious condition Thursday at LDS Hospital, where she was transferred Wednesday night. Christensen was treated and later released.
