Brigham Young University's Young Ambassadors make a rare appearance on Temple Square tonight as they present an evening in celebration of their 20th anniversary beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall.
Other Assembly Hall concerts this week include a recital on Wednesday, Nov. 1, by the husband-and-wife team of tenor Michael Nelson and soprano Katrina Nelson in an evening of opera, song and musical theater. Included will be extracts from "Andrea Chenier," "The Secret Garden," "Kiss Me Kate" and "The Phantom of the Opera."Another husband-and-wife team, violinist Jean Bradford and pianist Barlow Bradford, will play sonatas of Beethoven and Brahms on Friday, Nov. 3. Joined by cellist Ellen Bridger, they will also be heard in the Ravel Piano Trio.
Finally, the Utah Baroque Ensemble under Martha Sargent will be joined by the BYU Brass Choir on Friday, Nov. 4, for a program of sacred music. Included will be pieces by Bach (Cantata 172), Gabrieli, Schuetz, Daniel Pinkham and John Rutter.
Starting time for each is 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
- FLUTIST SUSAN GOODFELLOW and clarinetist Kathy Pope will present a faculty recital at 7:30 this evening at the University of Utah's Gardner Hall.
The two will be heard in sonatas of Devienne and Saint-Saens, Demersseman's "Grande Fantasie de Concert" on Weber's "Oberon," transcriptions from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" Giampieri's "Carnival of Venice" Variations and music of Babin, Muczynski and Grovlez.
There is no charge for admission.
- THE VIENNA CHOIR BOYS complete their swing through Utah this week with performances Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 30 and 31, at Orem's SCERA Shell; Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Logan's Eccles Theatre; and Thursday, Nov. 2, at Abravanel Hall.
Staring time for the SCERA Shell concerts is 7:30 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. Tuesday, with tickets to each $8. The other two begin at 8 p.m., with Logan tickets $9-$15 and Abravanel Hall tickets $12-$22.
Directed by Martin Schebesta, the 24-member group will offer its familiar blend of sacred, secular and folk music, including a fully costumed operetta, "Wiener Leben" ("Viennese Life"), by Johann Strauss.

- SALT LAKE OPERA THEATRE will present "An Evening at the Pops" as its initial offering of the season Friday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 5, at St. Ambrose Church, 1975 S. 2300 East. Starting time each night is 7:30 p.m., with general admission $8 at the door.
Under Robert Zabrskie, the company will be heard in music from "The Merry Widow," "Boris Godunov" (the Coronation Scene) and the trio from the final act of Gounod's "Faust." Performing will be sopranos Naomi Jergensen, Lee Broadhead, Heidi Sloyer Slagel and Beryl Jensen Smiley along with tenor David Peck, baritone Robert van Wagenen and bass Don Watts.
In addition, the orchestra will perform Faure's "Elegy," with cellist Brian Johnson as soloist, and music from the movies "Somewhere in Time" and "Sleepless in Seattle."
- ORGANIST JAMES DRAKE, director of organ studies at Utah State University, will present a recital on Friday, Nov. 3, at Ogden's First United Methodist Church, 2604 Jefferson Ave.
Sponsored by the Ogden Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, the program starts at 7:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but a free-will offering will be taken.
- CLIFF MILLWARD will lead the Murray Concert Band in its fall concert Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Junior High School, 126 E. 5300 South.
Included among the selections will be Walton's "Crown Imperial," a Beach Boys medley, music from Disney's "Pocahontas" and "The Lion King" and Fillmore's arrangement of Suppe's "Poet and Peasant" Overture.
Admission is $3 ($1 students and senior citizens) or free to children 12 and under.
- THE WEST VALLEY Symphony will launch its first season under its new music director, Stephen Baker, with a concert Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. in the Granger High School auditorium, 3690 S. 3600 West.
With Baker and associate conductor Larry Wadsworth on the podium, the orchestra will perform such Halloween-themed music as Mussorgsky's "A Night on Bald Mountain," Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette" and selections from the movies "Jaws," "The Witches of Eastwick" and "Jurassic Park."
Also on the program: Beethoven's "Prometheus" Overture, a suite from "Dances With Wolves" and Mancini's "Peter Gunn" and "Strings on Fire."
