Utah Highway Patrol officials say a Salt Lake man and Colorado woman are lucky to be alive Saturday after a spare tire flew out of a truck ahead of the couple and smashed into the roof and windshield of the car they were driving.

Trooper Kim Kavanagh said Wesley Bryan, 52, and Diane Bryan, age unknown, of Fruita, Colo., were driving north on I-15 near Sandy about 6:45 p.m. when a spare tire fell out of a truck and struck their 1984 Buick.The accident occurred near 8900 South.
