Jo-Jo Yaba won the 5,000 meters to lead UC Irvine to the women's title and UC Santa Barbara won the men's title in the Big West Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Irvine won its 10th women's title in the last 13 years, piling up 38 points.UC Santa Barbara was second with 48 and Hawaii third with 116 in the 11-team women's field.
Yaba, a senior, won the 5,000 in 17 minutes, 58 seconds over the Central Park course and earned Big West athlete of the year honors. UC Santa Barbara's Eliza Alexander was second in 18:16.
UC Santa Barbara placed five runners in the top eight spots to win the men's title with 24 points. Utah State was second with 35 and UC Irvine third with 75 in the six-team field.
Santa Barbara's Brad Glosser won the 8,000 in 25:21 to earn athlete of the year honors. Teammate Dave Cullum was second in 25:43 and Utah State's Toby Conley third in 25:52.
