Charles Smith led a balanced attack with 16 points off the bench as the New York Knicks finished the preseason at 4-4 with a 118-74 romp Sunday over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Sharone Wright led the 76ers with 15 points. Philadelphia dropped its last two preseason games to finish at 4-4.Until Charles Oakley's ejection in the second quarter, the Knicks used only seven players: Oakley, Anthony Mason, Patrick Ewing, John Starks and Derek Harper plus reserves Hubert Davis and Charles Smith.

Oakley's ejection was triggered when he exchanged angry words with 76ers coach John Lucas with 6:45 left in the second quarter. Philadelphia guard Vernon Maxwell interceded, and he and Oakley shoved each other. Oakley took a swing at 76ers forward Scott Williams but stumbled and knocked down a referee.

The Knicks built a 50-point lead in the third quarter, outscoring Philadelphia 37-10.

New York went on a 13-0 first quarter spurt, with all five starters contributing to put them ahead 33-17 after one quarter.

Cavaliers 96, Raptors 89

At Toronto, the Cleveland Cavaliers, getting 18 points from Tyrone Hill, had an eight-point run while outscoring the Toronto Raptors 18-11 in the final 4:40 for an NBA exhibition victory.

Danny Ferry added 16 points, Chris Mills 13 and Dan Majerle 12 for the Cavaliers (5-3).

Oliver Miller had 16 points off the bench for the expansion Raptors, who closed out their first exhibition season at 3-5. Ed Pinckney added 14 points and Willie Anderson 11. Zan Tabak had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Alvin Robertson, who appeared in a Toronto court Sunday morning to post $3,000 bail on assault charges, started for the Raptors and committed three turnovers in the first six minutes.
