Only one of two incumbents running for City Council seats in Logan survived the primary election Tuesday.

Veteran Councilman Lynn F. Braken, who has served for 17 years, was handily defeated by challengers Karen S. Borg and Steve Thompson in the race for Seat 1, four-year term.Borg is a homemaker, and Thompson owns a local T-shirt printing company.

Incumbent Richard L. Thomas, who will advance to the general election, faces stiff competition from John L. Harder in the race for Seat 2 on the Logan City Council.

Results were complete but unofficial.

Harder, a local businessman, received 1,141 votes to the 705 garnered by Thomas, who has had two terms on the City Council.

Defeated were Jeff Ewing, a budget analyst, and former Councilman Darwin W. Larsen.

Key issues in the race included economic development and improved communication between officials and residents.
