SHARE MARSALIS AND JAZZMEN SWING INTO UTAH THIS WEEK

Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra swing into Utah this week for two performances along the Wasatch Front.

The first takes place Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Logan in the Kent Concert Hall of Utah State University's Chase Fine Arts Center. The second takes place Thursday, Oct. 12, in Provo, at Brigham Young University's Marriott Center.Starting time for each is 7:30 p.m., with USU tickets priced from $3 to $20 and BYU tickets from $12 to $16.

Conducted by Grammy-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center's artistic director, the orchestra will perform a program of jazz masterworks by some of the great American composers of this century.

Included will be the music of such influential jazz masters as Thelonious Monk, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Charles Mingus. Also featured will be excerpts from Marsalis' "Blood on the Fields," which received its world premiere at Lincoln Center last year.

The official "house band" for Jazz at Lincoln Center activities, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra is dedicated to developing a performance repertory of historic compositions and newly commissioned works for big band.
