M. Louise Gibbs, age 71, died November 10, 1995 at LDS Hospital.
Louise was born April 25, 1924 in San Bernardino, Calif. She was the oldest of five children of Margaret A. Whitlock and Elmer W. Culley. She spent most of her childhood in the Oakley-Burley, Idaho area. She married her childhood friend Robert W. Halpin Sr. on August 31, 1942. They had five children and spent the majority of their 23 years in Pocatello, Idaho. Divorce preceded her move to North Salt Lake in 1965. She met and married Leo Delos Gibbs in 1967. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 26, 1970 and together they have nurtured seven children, 31 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.Louise was known for her compassionate heart and her never empty "cookie jar". She gave of herself right up to her death, overriding the constraints of her chronic illness by demonstrating to all who knew and loved her that empathy, compassion, and truly listening to another person can not be bound by physical illness.
Survived by husband, Leo DeLos Gibbs; mother, Margaret (Lester) Lee; sister, Shirley (Luke) Estes; brother, Donald W. (Donna) Culley, living in Idaho; sister, Alice (Charles) Fenstermaker, living in N. Salt Lake; and children: Robert W. (Barbara) Halpin, Sherrie L. (Wayne) Shumway, Richard R. (Annette) Halpin, Pamela S. (Russell) Mitchell, Kelly B. (Charlene) Gibbs; two stepsons, Gary G. (Tina) Gibbs, Jeffery J. (Darlene) Gibbs. Preceded in death by father, Elmer W. Culley, brother, Elmer Eugene Culley and granddaughter, Shanna L. Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 11 a.m. at the Orchard 3rd Ward, 261 E. Center St., North Salt Lake. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Viewing held at Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 No. 400 E., Bountiful, Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Interment at Portage Cemetery, Portage, Utah.
