KennaRae Miller went fishing for scholarships, and she landed a big one - $12,000 from the Elks National Foundation.

Valedictorian at South Sevier High School this year, she lives with her mother, Lila Mae Miller, in the small unincorporated hamlet of Central. Her father, Kenneth E. Miller, lives in Manti.She was sponsored in the Elks' "Most Valuable Student" scholarships program by the Richfield Lodge #2420. This marks the third time that the lodge has sponsored national scholarship winners. Candidates from most lodges have never had one major national scholarship winner.

Miller also won a $1,500 scholarship from the American Legion Auxiliary and several smaller scholarships from institutions of higher learning. A straight "A" student since elementary school, she was also named a Tandy Technology scholar, which recognizes only the top 2 percent of student academic achievers in the nation.
