I can't understand why the American people have become so lazy. We want anybody and everybody to take our responsibilities and duties and do them for us.

Prior to America there were no opportunities for people to ever improve their lot in life. Very few people owned any property. Nor did they ever even think of being able to own a piece of land. They were kept stupid and had no chance for an education. These were reserved for the aristocracy.Since Americans have been brought up with these ideas as the norm, we don't value them at all. We actually seem to dislike the time and effort it takes to remain free and have access to learning.

My fear is that we are not rewarded for the honest effort we put into our lives. The government has been given the right to take my rewards and redistribute them to people who won't and don't put in the effort to get ahead.

Alexis de Tocqueville was visiting in this country in 1831 to observe democracy in its infancy. He found it astounding that people could own land, be educated, govern their own communities and lives. Why are we willing to return our freedoms to another aristocracy now?

If we must have government schools, I wish they would let our children learn about all their responsibilities and let them know the opportunities that were intended for us when our country began. Our children are not taught to think and reason, so they are not able to make an effort or even conceive their own ideas.

It really scares me to think we are letting the government come into our private lives merely for convenience.
