Utah weather highlights:
OCT. 3-4: A strong cold front brought the first light snowfall to many Salt Lake Valley locations. By mid-morning on the 4th, snow was reported on the east sides of the Salt Lake Valley and Provo. Amounts ranged from a trace to 3 inches. In the mountains, Snyderville picked up 3 inches, Alta 5 inches and Snowbird 6 to 8 inches at the base and nearly a foot at Hidden Peak.
OCT. 22: A vigorous system moved into mostly northern Utah, with the first significant valley snowfall in portions of Davis, Salt Lake and Utah counties. Snowfall amounts included, in inches: Alta, 18 to 22"; Holladay, 2 to 3 "; Orem, 5" and Lehi, 5 inches.
OCT. 26: A mostly dry system crossed the northern portion of Utah, producing clouds and a few light showers. The system caused some strong winds in mountain locations and the Uintah Basin. Winds ranged from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts of 50 mph reported at Randolph and 55 mph at Roosevelt.
Some monthly precipitation amounts (in inches) for October: Alta, 1.93 inches (55 percent of normal); Blanding, 1.17 inches (131 percent of normal); Cedar City, 0.57 (58 percent); Escalante, .32 (31 percent); Holladay, 1.36 (75 percent); Manti, 0.59 (42 percent); Logan, .60 (37 percent of normal); St. George, 0.71 (131 percent); and Salt Lake Airport, 1.33 (104 percent).
