Lorin Condie, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995 at his home in St. George.
He was born March 25, 1919 in Hamilton Fort, Utah, a son of John Alexander and Jenette Amelia Condie. He married Thelma Alice Stapley, October 14, 1940 in Beaver, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died February 20, 1984. He later married Barbara Vern Hone Day on June 6, 1987 in Las Vegas, Nevada.Lorin was reared and educated in Cedar City, Utah. He worked as a chauffeur for movie companies for seven years. He was a Masonry Contractor through Southern Utah for many years. He built monuments at Capital Reef and also built many monuments for the Sons of Utah Pioneers. Lorin was a Veteran of World War II. He was an excellent horseshoe pitcher and won many prizes and awards. He served as president of the Horseshoe Pitchers Assoc. in St. George, and as vice-president of the Southern Utah Assoc. of Horseshoe Pitchers. Lorin competed in the Senior Games and in the Summer Games in Cedar City. In 1992, he won 7th place in the World Championships in South Dakota. Lorin loved to dance and was a square dance caller. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He has served as president of the Sons of Utah Pioneers in Cedar City and was an active member of the LDS Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, St. George; four children, Vic (wife, Trena), Hurricane; DeLoris (husband, Jack) Orvin, LaVerkin; Linda (husband, Patrick) Dougherty, Trophy Club, Texas; Iris Condie, Magna, Utah; three stepchildren, Randall Ned (wife, Marilyn) Day, and Debra (husband, Keith) Stubbs, all Salt Lake City; Cynthia (husband, Steve) Kirkland, Washington, Utah; two sisters, Belle Hopkins, Middleton, Utah; Margaret Munford, Henderson, Nevada; preceded in death by two sons, Raymond "Ron" Condie, and DeLon Condie, and a granddaughter, Danette Orvin.
There will be a viewing Wednesdayy evening, November 15, 1995, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, 58 North 100 East. Funeral services will be held at the Cedar City 19th Ward Chapel, 155 East 400 South, Thursday, November 16, 1995, 1 p.m., where friends may call from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of the Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary.
