There are many candidates for office in Taylorsville-Bennion who may be thinking that they lost in the election on Tuesday. I want to share with them what a difference they have made, even if they were not elected. Each of the numerous candidates who spent time, energy and resources to help get our new city started have made an invaluable contribution already. Sheer numbers alone have made a statement that this is a community where people care and want to be involved. There were more candidates in Taylorsville-Bennion than in the rest of Salt Lake County combined. To me, that says a lot about our community.

The candidates are well-informed, capable and dedicated citizens who were gutsy enough to "go for it" in a time when apathy reigns and financial problems beset so many cities. I'm proud of all the candidates who stepped forward and wanted to be involved as this new city is formed and organized. Thank you for investing in the future of our city.I also hope that many of the candidates will stay connected with the City Council that is elected. I feel that the experience and insight of many of the candidates is invaluable. I hope all of them will continue to serve on committees and be involved so that we can benefit from their knowledge and expertise and enthusiasm.

In all of my 25 years of voting, I have never felt like we had such a good choice. I usually end up choosing the candidate that I disagree with least but have never had such a huge list of candidates with whom I agree. Congratulations to all of the candidates - this was an election where mud-slinging and bashing were not evident - what a great statement for the quality of men and women who will be representing us.
