Police arrested an Arizona man in connection with the rape of a woman under the 1200 South overpass early Thursday.
The 22-year-old Orem woman was walking south across the overpass about 2 a.m. when a man wielding a sheetrock hatchet dragged her under the span, said Orem Police Det. Gary Downey. He forced her to undress and raped her, Downey said. The woman had declined a ride from the man, who was driving a red pickup truck, outside a Provo bar earlier that night.A motorist spotted the unclothed woman walking down the street and drove her to the police department, Downey said. He said the woman was able to remember part of the truck's license plate number. Police found the truck parked at the City Center Motel in Provo. The man was asleep in the back, Downey said.
Police recovered a sheetrock hatchet and a sheet they believe was used during the rape, he said.
A 43-year-old man is in the Orem City Jail on suspicion of aggravated rape.
