The City Council has given its Youth City Council two weeks to produce evidence that shows its plan for curbing reckless ATV driving on city streets is effective.

Otherwise, the City Council will pass an ordinance banning the operation of ATVs and other off-road vehicles on the streets.A council member said teen-operated vehicles are damaging streets and are a danger to both their drivers and other people. Most of the drivers wear helmets, he acknowledged, but they drive too fast and sometimes three and four pile on one vehicle.

The city first took a conciliatory approach to the problem by turning it over to the Youth Council but may have to take more drastic action.
