By the time this letter is published, the Clearfield City election will have been decided by the flip of a coin. All in accordance with the state laws. This is as it should be, letting due process take its course. What I am concerned about is the last few days prior to the election. For a long time we have had good, clean campaigning in Clearfield. The candidates have expressed their views and stated their likes and dislikes with the current administration, but they did not make personal attacks on a single candidate.
This year it was certainly different. An unsigned personal attack was made on a candidate and distributed in the business community only. A candidate distributed a flier attacking another candidate by using his campaign slogan and stating all the things wrong with his views. The sad part about this flier is that it was not distributed in the district where both candidates live. It was however, distributed over most of the other sections of the city. There is no room for this type of action in Clearfield. Both writers of these fliers should not only apologize to the candidates they wronged but should apologize to the citizens of Clearfield City for their wrongful and deceitful actions. One other statement I feel is needed to be said. Only 28 percent of the registered voters made it to the polls this election. So those of you that did not make it this year, don't complain if things don't go the way you think they should in the City Council.
