Jerry Garcia's new book reveals what only a few people were privy to in his life: darkly humorous stories and colorful pictures from his childhood memories.

"Harrington Street," to be released Tuesday, features pictures of events such as Garcia rescuing a cat that turned out to be a rat and the death of his father, who drowned when Garcia was 5, said his widow, Deborah Koons Garcia."When he showed me the drawings, I asked him, didn't he have any good memories, any ecstatic memories? That's when he went and drew the angels," she said.

The title of the book comes from the San Francisco street where Garcia was raised. The frizzy-haired Grateful Dead guitarist died in August at 53.
