A 3-year-old girl died about two hours after being run over by a pickup truck she was playing behind Friday morning.

The girl was at a baby sitter's and went outside to play about 8 a.m. apparently without the sitter's knowledge, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Taylor. The woman watching the girl gathered five other children in her care into the truck to take them to school, Taylor said. The woman backed over the little girl, who was playing behind the vehicle, and told police she didn't know she'd hit her, he said.

The woman took the other children to school and came home about 15 minutes later, where she discovered the girl lying in the driveway, Taylor said. The child was flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center where she died about two hours later, he said.

Taylor said the incident didn't appear to be suspicious, and he didn't anticipate any type of criminal charge being filed against the baby sitter.
