Instructor Brian Hansen (wearing bib) puts Deseret News ski schoolers through the motions at Alta. Hansen's pupils had the mountain all to themselves Saturday because warm temperatures have kept the snow levels too low to open, but enough to hold school. About 700 students enjoyed the unique learning experience. Resort crews worked long hours to groom the slopes into perfect shape for the ski school. Hansen taught students to get up after a fall, climb and make stationary turns, and how to walk on skis. There will be no class this Thanksgiving Weekend, but students will return to Alta for the final two classes on Dec. 2 and 9.
