Television in our country today has become appalling and sickening. Recently, many of the major television companies have reformatted all their programs for prime-time television. Many children watch prime time. According to last week's article, the sponsors wanted programs changed so adults would watch and buy items shown in the commercials. During the most heavily watched hours, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Fox, for example, puts on the air such shows as "Melrose Place" and "Partners." These shows are disgusting and morally degrading because they deal with adult situations not suitable for children. Certainly, good parents would not want their small children watching these kinds of programs. TV stations don't care what America's future is watching anymore.

The only way to stop these shows from being on prime time is to simply turn off the TV. My family has stopped watching prime-time television. It's an easy thing for an individual or family to do. If more people would turn off their TVs, we could all send a message to the television stations that their shows are not acceptable and we will not watch them.Melanie Harris
