The Central Utah Food Bank, which has occupied borrowed space for several years, is now going to get a home of its own.
The nonprofit group that operates the food bank expects to break ground soon for the $100,000 facility on land donated by the city of Mt. Pleasant in its industrial park. The 2,000-square-foot metal building will be financed in large part by two Community Impact Board grants - $25,000 this year and $35,000 next year.
The $60,000 will about cover the actual cost of the building, according to Joe Blain, Sanpete County economic development director, who took the lead in securing the grants.
But, Mary Goodwin, of Fair-view, president of the sponsoring organization, said donations of material and labor - items like concrete, lumber and electrical and plumbing components - are needed before the facility can become completely operational.
