Weber State University men's basketball coach Ron Abegglen has announced the signing of two high school seniors to national letters of intent to play for the Wildcats during the 1996-97 season.

They are Cameron Koford (7-0, 210) out of Fremont High in Plain City and Ryan Jama (6-5, 200) from Lubbock High School in Lubbock, Texas."These two players are a great compliment to the young players we have in our program this year and gives us a solid building block for the future," said Abegglen.

"Cameron is the first seven-footer we've signed. He's a big, agile player who has shown continued improvement. Ryan reminds me of Jimmy DeGraffenried. He's got the same body build and can really shoot the ball."

Koford is a senior at Fremont High. As a junior last season, he averaged nine points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots per game for Coach Reid Newey's Silverwolves. Fremont was 9-11 in its first year as new school.

"Cameron really presents a big problem defensively for other teams to deal with," said Newey. "He has a great work ethic and runs the floor extremely well for a player his size."

Jama averaged 19.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and led Lubbock High to a 24-8 record last season as a junior. The Texas Basketball Magazine lists Jama on its pre- season First Team All-Class 5A state team. A tremendous jumper, Jama has won several local and regional slam dunk championships.

"Ryan is an outstanding player and some school's down here really missed the boat by not signing him," said Vick. "He plays everywhere for us."

In the opening game of the 1995-96 season last week, Jama had 23 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
