One of the traits of a good leader is the ability to delegate. One of the traits of a good wife is the ability to trust your husband. One of the traits of a good congressional representative is the ability to focus on political issues and serve your constituents as they have elected you to do.

Enid is no exception to these traits. She delegated the financial responsibility of her campaigns to someone she totally trusted. In her trust she honestly believed the problems pointed out by campaign workers, and government and political leaders would be cleared up by someone she loved and had entrusted her life to - Joe Waldholtz. Unfortunately, he turned out to be the biggest con man that any of us could have imagined.Much has been said about Enid's not personally auditing her campaign funds. Any responsible business or political leader has someone to handle the finances of their organization so that they can do what they do best - conduct business or politics. That is why Enid allowed someone she trusted, someone Henry Waldholtz trusted, someone Elsie Hillman trusted, to oversee the funds of her campaign. And then when there were problems, she trusted that same person to get to the "bottom" of the problems and set them straight. Which is what Joe had reported to her he had done.

Working on both of Enid's campaigns, I became acquainted with Joe - sweet, kind, jovial, gentle Joe. He fooled not only a campaign volunteer who was merely acquainted with him but people who had lived with him and loved him and those he had worked for in important political positions.

Enid has been sorely wronged by an opportunistic, egotistical moneymonger. I am appalled at the response of the polled people in Enid's district. How quick they are to judge her. On what do they base their belief that she has lied about her knowledge of campaign fraud? Of what is Enid guilty? Guilty of loving blindly'? Guilty of loving deeply? Guilty of trusting her husband?

Enid is also guilty of being one of the best congressional representatives in Washington. She is a woman of integrity. I am glad she is representing us in Washington, and I hope she will be allowed to continue to do so. Give her the benefit of the doubt, she is most deserving.
