A Salt Lake County family of eight escaped injury Tuesday when their house caught fire.
Firefighters took about 15 minutes to put out the fire at 4221 S. Barker Road (2090 West). The house suffered extensive damage to all three floors.Salt Lake County Fire Battalion Chief Howard Meik said flames were shooting out of the house's windows when crews arrived just after 6 p.m.
A woman and seven children were already outside.
Although an investigation is under way, Meik said a child playing with matches in the basement probably started the blaze.
Both Salt Lake County and West Valley City Fire departments responded to the fire. In all, 20 firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
