On the eve of the 1991 gulf war, Iraq considered attacking Israel with biological weapons, a newspaper reported Friday, citing a secret Iraqi document.
The document was among hundreds seized by U.N. inspectors at the farm of Gen. Hussein Kamel, the former head of Iraq's weapons program who defected to Jordan, the Haaretz newspaper said.Haaretz said the document was the first confirmation that Iraq seriously considered using weapons of mass destruction against Israel.
In the months before the war, Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had threatened to "burn half of Israel" with chemical weapons. But all 39 Scud missiles fired by Iraq at Israel during the war carried conventional warheads.
