A taxi driver who pleaded guilty to menacing Roberta Flack said the singer destroyed his mind, so the judge ordered him to undergo a psychiatric examination.

Tennyson Charles also called the judge a lunatic during a courtroom tirade as he was about to be sentenced on charges of menacing, attempted burglary and contempt of an order to leave Flack alone.Instead of handing out a prison sentence of up to seven years, the judge on Monday ordered the examination.

Charles was accused of terrorizing the Grammy-winning singer for years with menacing calls and by shouting obscenities outside her Manhattan apartment house.

Flack, known for her hit "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," apparently first saw Charles when he gave her a cab ride.
