LAYTON - David Seiter, chairman of the social studies department at Northridge High School, accepted the 1995 National Council for Social Studies Program of Excellence Award in a Chicago ceremony Nov. 11.

"The decision to present one award instead of (the usual) two is based on the committee's finding that although all nominated programs exhibited excellence in some areas, only the Northridge program exhibited excellence in each of the established criteria," a council spokesman said.

The programs were judged on three criteria comprising teachers, curriculum and students.
