The City Council has selected the only candidate for the job of Richmond mayor.
Kip Panter, a research scientist, will replace Derwin Merrill, who is resigning to serve an LDS Church mission.The change will happen Dec. 5.
Panter will complete the last two years of Merrill's second term, which expires in January 1998. Panter said he won't say right now whether he will run for election.
Panter was picked by Merrill and appointed Tuesday by a lame-duck council.
