A man is falsely representing himself as a Micron Technology hiring agent in Salt Lake and Utah counties, the company announced Wednesday.

Identifying himself as J.T. Smith, the man claims to be employed by Micron to hire managers for the company's semiconductor plant under construction in northeast Lehi, said Micron spokeswoman Julie Nash. During telephone discussions, he apparently requests people's Social Security number and banking information for "credit check."Micron has not contracted with any private firms to hire permanent employees at the Lehi facility. The company encourages people to not disclose any personal information to anyone making such claims.

Micron is working with Utah Job Service to assist in hiring workers. It is also working with Volt Services Group and Kelly Temporary Services to recruit temporary information systems personnel.
