Mental and emotional disorders, such as anxiety and depression, can lead to more disability than such common physical disorders as diabetes, a study of primary-care patients has found. Because a person's ability to work can be so affected by mental disorders, many of which can be treated, insurance companies should cover mental health services, asserts an editorial accompanying the report in the current Journal of the American Medical Association. "It is time to end the inequalities in their access to treatment," contends Dr. Richard M. Glass, JAMA deputy editor.
