Utah Valley State College has announced a new Food for Fines program allowing students to pay library fines with cans of food to help need families in Utah County.
Each can of food brought in will waive $1 of current library fines. Students will be allowed to pay entire fines with the food donations. All canned goods collected will then be donated to the Utah County Food Bank."Library staff members are looking forward to this exciting program in meeting the needs of our students and our community," said Kim Kasper, public services librarian.
Only commercially canned food items will be accepted for fines. Library accounts with balances that have gone to collection will not be affected, and a few other restrictions apply.
Food for Fines will run Dec. 1-15. The library will have extended evening hours Dec. 4-15. For more information, call 222-8265 or 222-8781.
