Larry Eustachy's 100th career win was hardly competitive, but it produced some hot numbers and pointed up a hallmark of his coaching - rebounds.

The 98-52 victory Monday night in the Spectrum over short-handed Chaminade of Honolulu saw three Aggies score 23 or more points while also reaching double figures in rebounds.Defending Big West MVP Eric Franson had his best overall game this season with 23 points and 15 rebounds in 22 minutes; JC transfer Antwan Smith had career highs of 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11-for-13 shooting; and Silas Mills turned it on after a six-point/three-rebound first half to score 26 and gain 10 rebounds in 24 minutes.

The big blast was rebounds. Previous Eustachy USU teams ranked 1 and 2 in the NCAA in rebound margin, and Monday's mark could put this team there, too.

The Ags outboarded Chaminade 65-17.

Rebounds were 35-7 at the half.

USU (4-5) had 26 offensive and 39 defensive rebounds. Chaminade (0-6) came in with a 40-29 season-average deficit in rebounds. The Ags outshot Chaminade 57-37 percent from the field and had a season high of 70 attempts.

"Isn't it amazing timing?" said Eustachy. "That team had Michigan State beaten (in the Maui Invitational; the Spartans won by three)."

The Silverswords Monday were minus top scorer Samba Johnson (suspended) and coach Don Doucette (family illness). No. 3 scorer Eric Chizer was hobbled and played only a minute before reinjuring himself. "We got that team at the right time," Eustachy said.

It was exactly what the Aggies needed after a three-game in-state losing streak including Saturday's two-point overtime heartbreaker to Weber State.

"It was good of our team to respond," said Eustachy. "I still think they're hurting from the Weber State loss."

"We needed a win," said Smith, 7-for-8 on first-half baskets while top Big West scorer Mills was 2-for-8. "I was in a groove. Sometimes you've got to pick up the slack. He eventually got his game rolling," Smith said of Mills, who had 11 of 13 USU points from 9:58-6:56 of the second half.

"(The win) helps going into practice this week," said starter Jon Wickizer, who played only 16 minutes as USU unearthed new bench contributors like Smith and Brent Moore. Wickizer totaled nine points and seven rebounds. "Antwan was impressive," said Wickizer. "Now we know we have some more weapons."

'Sword Damian Cephas had 20 points (9-for-20), Jermaine Sutton 11.

Of his 100th win (in 159 tries), Eustachy said, "It was nice. I never thought I'd be able to do it. A lot of guys who start in this profession don't reach that mark. It means a lot."

USU is off until its Gossner Foods Classic tournament Dec. 28-29.
